The First Five

The 5-Second Trust Test

← Back to course

You have five seconds. Maybe less.

When someone lands on your website, they are scanning. Not reading. Their brain is making one fast decision before they even realize it.

Am I in the right place?

Yes or no. That is it. That is the whole test.

Everything else — your services, your story, your pricing, your process — gets a chance only if they feel that yes. If they do not feel it fast, they are gone. No hard feelings. Just gone.

What Creates That Feeling

It is not one thing. It is everything hitting at once — your headline, your image, your layout, the words above the fold — all of it adding up to a single gut reaction.

But if you traced it back to its source, it almost always comes down to Question 1 from the last lesson.

Who is this for?

When your person lands on your page and immediately feels seen — their situation named, their problem recognized — they stay. That feeling of this is for me is what buys you the next five seconds, and the five after that.

Get that wrong and nothing else on the page gets read.

Run the Test

Open three competitor sites. Set a timer for five seconds per site. Land on the homepage, let the timer run, close the tab.

Ask yourself one question: did I feel like I was in the right place?

Then do it with three sites you love. The ones that pull you in immediately. Same question.

Use the audit template below. Write down what created that feeling, or killed it. You are training your eye for what works before you have to build it yourself.

Bring your notes into the next lesson. We are building your site structure next and this exercise is going to make every decision faster.
